At Supré, the workplace had weekly challenges to celebrate the brand's campaign, 'The Power Project'. This project was to recognise and acknowledge female empowerment for International Women's Day that focused on creativity and self-expression. In correspondence to the weekly challenge of "What does self-expression mean to you?", I was inspired to create this artwork as my own personal project. The expressiveness of this creation was stemmed from two selected statements that were used by Supré to highlight the core contextual meaning of self-expression. These were: "Beauty is yours to define" and "You're not made to be subtle." Having these two statements as a stimulator, this photographic piece is intended to showcase a collection of various items that symbolises these two powerful declarations that encourage women to have confidence in who they are and what they are made to become; it is their own self that produces their own definition of beauty and makes them stand out from the crowd. In saying that, personal items were gathered that I had in my bedroom to be used as the foundation of this artwork. Overall, this photo conveys a visual representation of the immense measure of how one can express themselves, creating a bold and dynamic existence in portraying the person they have beautifully and comfortably defined themselves to be. The power of individuality and creating yourself is depicted in the image and was also the underlying idea for International Women's Day 2019.
